The value of the Brazilian Real is low: now is the time to buy

January 2024

The current exchange rate between the euro and the Brazilian real is favourable, with €1 equivalent to 5.38 reais.

A modern flat near the sea in Maceió can currently be bought for as little as 320,000 reais, which works out at around €60,000 at the current exchange rate. However, the value of the Euro against the Real has been falling since Covid, when €1 was worth around 6RS, meaning that the same 320,000 reais flat could be bought in 2020 for just €53,000.

If the value of the real continues to fall against the euro, the flat could cost €65,000 in the next three months. So now is a good time to invest in property at a low price.

Why this decrease?

This fall in the real's value can be attributed to a variety of economic factors. For savvy investors, a weaker currency can represent a unique opportunity. Currencies that are temporarily falling in value offer a potential advantage to investors, because when their value rises again, the gains can be significant.
